Detailed Maintenance

A Concierge Landscape Company

What is a “concierge” landscape company?

Our unique Concierge Service entails a personalized experience; 1:1 collaboration, our full attention on your project - we only take on 2-3 projects at any time, expediency & timeliness, and constant communication.

The Garden Design Group is a boutique Design/Build firm, founded on the premise of outside-the-box thinking, always using the absolute best materials, expert craftsmanship, attention-to-detail,

and exceeding our clients’ expectations.

Our team has over 30 years of real field experience in turn-key high-end custom residential projects; from design to construction, we can handle it all!

Our Services

DESIGN: We’ll work with you to create a custom landscape design tailored to your specific family’s needs & wants.

Our process includes ALL material choices - both hardscape materials and plantings - so there are no surprises.

BUILD: We offer construction services & supervision to make sure that your vision is brought to life the way you discussed with your designer and without any corners being cut.

MAINTAIN: We take ongoing ownership of your yard to keep your investment in tip top shape for years to come. This goes beyond just basic gardening and extends into ‘staging’ your yard weekly; keeping flowers blooming, BBQ grill clean & your patio furniture dust free.

CONSULTING: We’ll walk your yard together and discuss the proper aesthetic and theme, offer design tips, give cost savings tips, and give guidance on what to expect during construction and the placement of elements for balance & good Feng Shui.

Our philosOphy

and what you SHOULD expect!

Mitch’s philosophy has always been to treat every project as if it was his own home; designing wow-factor to enhance his clientele’s quality of life, exceeding expectations, meeting the family’s needs, and adding to the property value.

What you would hope for, and expect, would be for your contractor to take ownership of the project, never cut corners, use the best construction practices possible, work in a timely manner, and communicate any issues or options regularly.

Process

1. Discovery

5. Follow Up

Our process always starts with learning about your family’s needs, understanding the full scope of work, discussing our client’s ‘wish list’, and budgetary restrictions.

We treat this meeting like a paid Consultation and offer advice and design ideas to establish trust, and determine if we are a good fit for your project.

This is where we are different than most contractors….we follow up! We have a ‘follow-up program’ where we visit the property regularly once complete to adjust timers, check on plant growth, and answer questions. Much like a living breathing owner’s manual!

2. Design

4. Construction

The BEST DESIGN is one that is comprehensive, includes details and call-outs of elements, hardscape and plant palettes that match your theme, includes unique design ideas, increases your quality of life and your property value.

Our conceptual plan does all of that & more.

3. Pricing/Bidding

Once we break ground, expect things to move at a good pace and get excited…we LOVE this process and you should too!

This is important to know exactly what you are getting, and what you are not! You can also decide in this phase what’s most important to you to include in your project.

Meet Our Founder

  • From a young age Mitch loved plants and digging in the dirt. Growing up with a Dad who was a master gardener gave him an appreciation for gardening and nature, but it wasn’t until college that he combined his love of plants with his passion for art, design and architecture. He formally studied Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona...and then things blossomed!

  • Since 1987, Mitch has built a reputation in the landscape industry as a highly sought-after designer and builder because of his professionalism, extensive landscape and construction knowledge, attention to detail, unique design ideas, and ability to exceed his client’s expectations.

  • With a forte for ‘theme design’ and unique design ideas, Mitch formed his own company in the late 1980s and went on to build a reputation for himself as one of the leading design/build landscape firms in LA and OC. Being featured on HGTV, in numerous trade publication as an Industry Expert and in such prestigious publications as The Wall St. Journal and The LA Times.

Mitch’s 5 Pillars of a Successful Project

1

Qualifying the Contractor

See Their Work

3

Great Communication

Understand What You Are Getting

Think of It As a Collaboration

  • Qualify potential contractors by asking several basic questions...

  • See some completed projects, speak with the homeowners...and ask to visit some jobs in progress to determine the work ethic and cleanliness of the jobsite.

  • Pay attention.. to how the designer and the contractor communicate...or even better, choose someone who is both!

  • Go over your proposal for construction with a fine-toothed comb and make sure you understand exactly what you are getting.

  • Remember this is a collaboration - it’s like a marriage, and you need to get a feel for what it will be like to endeavor on a (potentially stressful) project with this person - do they seem reasonable? Are they a problem solver?

I go in depth and answer these questions and more in my ‘Consumer Guide’ ...pick up your copy today!

How Our Process is Different…

  • He listens; your family’s needs are a top priority.
  • He is sensitive to the budget.
  • He thinks outside the box; unique design ideas will be what sets your project apart from the neighbors.
  • Problem-solving; there are issues daily in construction - that’s a fact - it’s a matter of a viable solution being figured out, options offered, and implemented.
  • We are a ‘boutique’ firm; never taking on more than 2-3 projects at any given time - so yours gets our full attention.
  • Turn-key services for all aspects of your project; design/build, accessorize, maintain
  • We take ownership from beginning to end; no excuses! That’s what you’d expect from a great company.
  • We have a detailed follow-up program; our “Owner’s Manual”, and complete accessibility well after your project is complete, is what sets us apart and will keep our client’s investment looking great for years to come.

Testimonials

“Never before have I worked with a contractor or crew that came anywhere near this team in terms of expertise, proficiency, creativity, reliability, and trustworthy. They aren't the cheapest out there, but you truly get what you pay for, and the extra cost you may see when comparing bids is well worth it. I wholeheartedly recommend Mitch and his services without hesitation.

Mitch is an extremely talented designer. He was able to transform rough ideas and sketches into a masterpiece. His crew then executed Mitch's vision perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased with the end result”

~Brian Peterson

Mitch was on site frequently and would spend hours micro-inspecting their work. If there was something that he did not like, he would make them redo it. Many times he would do this, I could see nothing wrong but Mitch has an eye for perfection.

I feel like we got so much more for our investment, and you can tell that the overall build quality is above and beyond and will last for decades. Mitch and his team are true artists, craftsmen and professionals.”

~Darren Manibog

“Mitch is a perfectionist with a keen eye for detail”

~Tom McDaniel

“Mitch is our Landscape ARTIST!!! I say Artist because that's exactly what he is. His designs are eloquent, efficient, beautiful and stand the test of time. He has done work for family members in the past and is currently working on our most recent project. Mitch and his staff are wonderful to work with.

We needed to trust his vision and when we finally let him do his thing he exceeded our expectations!”

~Ron S.
